Episcias (flame violets), Gesneriads which are related to African violets, are natives of Central & South America. They are grown in temperate regions as houseplants, primarily for their attractive foliage. But with good east or artificial lighting, they will also bloom at regular intervals throughout the year. These plants like it warmer and more humid than do most houseplants. Flame violets are fast growers which send out stolons, or long stems with baby plants on the ends. By the end of the summer, your plant will have several hanging all around its little pot, and be ready to transplant to a hanging basket.

The spider plant is exceptionally hardy, surviving in less than perfect conditions, and stunning in perfect conditions. A mature plant forms tight rosettes of arching leaves with a profusion of hanging plantlets on long stems, up to 3 feet, as well as small white flowers. The basket contains three young plants not yet producing 'baby' stems.
