This is the plant I had formerly mis-identified as Astrantia, or Masterwort. I finally found someone on a plant ID site who was able to give me the correct ID. Sorry for the confusion! This is actually one of the stranger early spring perennials... Mukdenia rossii. I'm sorry that it doesn't have a common name, since that Latin name is a mouthful. Mukdenia rossii is native to rocky slopes and ravines in China, Manchuria and Korea. It is a compact herbaceous perennial similar to coral bells in habit and height. Palmate medium green leaves are tinged with bronze and attractive throughout the growing season. White, bell-shaped flowers rise above the foliage clump to 16” tall in March and April. Best grown in moist, fertile, well-drained soils in part shade, it appreciates afternoon shade or sun dappled shade in the south. Plants spread over time by short creeping rhizomes, and may self-seed in optimum growing conditions.

Mullein and Garlic Tincture contains, mullein, garlic, cane alcohol and distilled water. Make of mullein and garlic grown at Cline Farm. Mullein is a supreme, safe, and profound respiratory tonic. It helps open the lungs, eases spasms, tightness, and cough, and soothes irritation and dryness. Mixed with garlic it a superfood for all things respiratory. A few drops of tincture can also be used topically for treatment of fungal and bacterial infections. Not recommended for children and during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. For the tincture, 1/4–3/4 teaspoon (1–4 ml) is taken three to four times per day. As a dried product, 1/2–3/4 teaspoon (3–4 grams) is used three times per day. Mullein is sometimes combined with other demulcent or expectorant herbs when used to treat coughs and bronchial irritation. A note on tinctures: Herbs in liquid form are potent and can be quite bitter or medicinal tasting. While most people adjust to the strong flavor profile, it may be a bit surprising at first. Make sure you shake the bottle thoroughly and take sublingually (under the tongue) for the most effective result. If the strong flavor is just too much for you, but you still want the benefits, try adding your tincture to a warm or cold beverage. Precautions No known precautions. The otherwordly lion's mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) contains a class of compounds known as the “hericenones,” which early rodent studies suggest may help counteract age-related memory decline. The beloved reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum et al. ) has been a mainstay of traditional Chinese medicine for many centuries. An explosion of recent studies have targeted the reishi mushroom for what are reputed to be anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune-stabilizing properties. Turkey tail mushrooms (Trametes versicolor) are used commonly in Chinese medicine for their purportedly immune-boosting properties. Notably, they contain polysaccharopeptide (PSP) and polysaccharide-K (PSK), which in early rodent studies have appeared to slow or inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Maitake mushrooms (Grifola frondosa), alternatively known as hen of the woods, may have serve to enhance immune function and help reduce hypertension. Cordyceps mushrooms (Cordyceps militaris) contain a compound called cordycepin whose possible health benefits include reducing inflammation, improving heart health, and enhancing immunity. This high-quality extract was produced through a dual-extraction method whereby dehydrated and powderized mushrooms are soaked in ethyl alcohol for 30 days before undergoing a hot-water decoction. Dual extraction allows for the removal of a wider spectrum of desirable compounds from the mushroom fruitbody than with single-method extraction. Alcohol to water ratio = 45:55. Note that, although increasingly promising mammalian studies hint at the utility of medicinal mushroom extracts, few human studies have focused on the effects of these substances. Handmade made incense sticks in Sewanee, Tennessee. A scent created in 1964 by renowned incense blender K. N. Satyam Setty for the birth of his son, Nag Champa quickly gained notoriety as one of the most popular incense scents available today. Nag Champa even became the signature scent used at shows performed by Bob Dylan and is renowned for its complex yet simple and earthy fragrance. Nag Champa is created with the scents of champaca, sandalwood, and halmaddi. Champaca is where the “champa” in this incense’s name comes from and has a similar scent to a Magnolia, except with more spice and hints of orange, peach, and honey. The sandalwood gives the incense a creamy, warm scent while halmaddi is similar to Frankincense and binds the aromatic notes of this incense together.
