This adorable bar of a goat kid playing in a meadow has a citrus and herbal scent, with my own blend of ginger, lime and lavender essential oils. Goat milk is renowned for the luxurious qualities it gives soap, particularly gentle exfoliating and excellent moisturizing. I hand-milk my goats Sophia, Snowpea, and Elvira, and use the rich milk as well as olive and coconut oils, almond, castor, and avocado oils and shea butter to make this wonderful soap. I don't use Palm oil as many soapmakers do - while it itself is a useful oil, I can't condone the harmful cultivation practices used to produce it, and find I don't need it - this soap is wonderful without it!  It is so moisturizing and good for your skin, with extra vitamins and nutrients from the goat milk, as well as the luxurious oils I use. If you have used goat milk soap before, or any good handmade soap, you know that it is a completely different creature than commercial soap, which can be so drying! When soap is made by hand, the chemical reaction of oils with a lye solution forms the substances soap and glycerin. A typical bar of handmade soap is roughly 1/3 glycerin! This is a humectant, meaning it pulls water from the air - when on your skin, it literally moisturizes your skin by attracting water to it. In commercial soaps, the glycerin is distilled and removed, and later sold back to you in a lotion, but in the "real thing", it is all one package. I used to use lotions and moisturizers a lot, especially in the winter, but I virtually never use them anymore, other than some of my grass-fed tallow balm on my hands occasionally.

This soap is ideal for sensitive or allergy-prone skin - chemical fragrances are the #1 allergen in skin care, and I have to say, I was flabbergasted to learn recently that "unscented" commercial soap often uses fragrance to make it smell unscented. This is outrageous, and I surmise it's why you also find the term "fragrance-free" - because "unscented" may not actually be.  This soap is available in either a rectangular molded bar with the word "GOAT MILK" across the front (this listing), or a plain square bar (separate listing), both approximately 4 oz.  The molded bar is packaged in a windowed brown kraft paper box. Full ingredients are: local lard, our own sheep tallow and goat milk, shea butter, and olive, castor & coconut oils. I use lard that I render myself from either Pig Mountain's or Cove Creek's pastured, non-GMO-fed pigs. While lard soap often has a reputation for being harsh or rough on skin, that is largely because many years ago, lye was not consistently refined, and people didn't use precision measurements. Today, with 100% pure lye and my digital scale, lard makes a beautiful white soap, very hard and long-lasting, with good cleaning power, while being very gentle and great for skin. I have gotten great reviews, both in person and through my Etsy shop, about how wonderful this soap is on skin - gentle, moisturizing, cleansing, and no residue! Handmade liquid soap, from scratch! This is a concentrated liquid lard soap, made here on the farm from hand-rendered lard courtesy of Cove Creek Farm.  This handmade soap is 80% local lard and 20% coconut oil, which adds extra cleaning power and lather.  My bar lard soap has gotten great reviews, so I've simply converted the same recipe to liquid form for those of you that prefer the convenience of liquid over bar soap. I love that I can make a great soap mostly from local ingredients sourced right here in Tennessee – most of my other soap ingredients come from halfway around the world, so I'm excited that I can reduce my (and therefore your) carbon footprint and source most of this soap locally!  Lard soap is surprisingly moisturizing and gentle on skin. While lard soap often has a reputation for being harsh or rough on skin, that is largely because many years ago, lye was not consistently refined, and people didn't use precision measurements.  Today, with 100% pure lye and a digital scale, lard makes a beautiful soap, very hard and long-lasting, with good cleaning power, while being surprisingly gentle and great for skin. I have gotten great reviews about how wonderful this soap is on skin - gentle, moisturizing, cleansing, and no residue! I make this soap very concentrated, so it will work well in the foaming pump dispensers - if you want to use it in the standard squirt-pump bottle, you'd probably prefer the thickened "creamy" version (also here on the market) - without the thickening agent (simply table salt!!) it tends to splatter a bit. Since this is concentrated, you can dilute it further, "to taste", but it will be very thin, and may not work in the foaming pump as well.   This is sold as a refill for your existing foaming-pump bottle, it is packaged in a re-purposed plastic bottle that I received sodium hydroxide (lye) in for soap-making. The bottle has been thoroughly washed, and holds 32 oz of soap. Once you're finished with the bottle, I'd love to have it back to continue it's useful life - just return it the the farmer's market - or I hope you either recycle it, or re-purpose it again - I use dozens of these in my kitchen for storing grains, beans, flour, nut-meal, seeds etc, they're such a great size and fit well in a kitchen cabinet!  To learn more about me, my goats, our farm here in Tennessee, or how I make my soap, stop by my blog or check out our new Instagram account and see what’s going on on the farm!
