The one I'm selling needs an updated picture, as it is pinker than this picture shows. A rapidly spreading perennial, Creeping Phlox grows to no more than 6 inches in height. The foliage is soft, needle-like, and remains lush spring through fall. The flowers emerge in April and May. This plant looks great growing over rocks. If massed together as a ground cover, creeping phlox plants make a powerful landscaping statement. After the blooming period, prune back the foliage of creeping phlox plants to encourage foliage to become denser & more attractive as a summer ground cover. Hardy in zones 2-8, Creeping Phlox likes full sun.

Lenten rose is an evergreen, 15- to 18-inch tall groundcover with leathery, dark-green, shiny foliage. Their new growth generally appears during late January and February, and precedes the 3- to 4-inch nodding, cup-shaped flowers that quickly emerge through the mulch or snow layer. This item has a light pink/cream flower with a greenish center, and I will list other colors separately as available. The petals of the Lenten rose are actually sepals, and do not drop readily as with other flowers, but last for a couple of months. Some darker colors may fade over the 8- to 10-week bloom and fruiting period. As the flower turns into a fruit, mature seeds are dropped beneath the canopy of foliage. Soon small seedlings will appear in dense clusters which can be readily transplanted to additional shady sites. Lenten roses are long-lived plants and rarely need dividing. To enhance plant growth, they can be fertilized with a slow-release fertilizer when new foliage begins to appear in late winter. They do well under very dry conditions, are naturally deer and rabbit repellent, have very few insect pests or disease problems, and require little care. Lenten roses have coarse-textured, dissected foliage, which combines especially well in the landscape with the delicate foliage of ferns, the more rounded foliage of hosta, and smaller-leafed perennials and shrubs. Their evergreen foliage provides winter interest when many other perennials are dormant.

Plant in partial shade in well drained soil high in organic matter. Flowers are good for cutting. Jacobs ladder is a good plant for the early summer flowering garden. Space plants 12-18 inches apart. It does well in the rock garden, the woodland garden, and in containers. Good companions are Astilbe, Columbine, Coral Bells, Carex, Hosta, Siberian Iris, Lilyturf, and Solomon's Seal.

This is the plant I had formerly mis-identified as Astrantia, or Masterwort. I finally found someone on a plant ID site who was able to give me the correct ID. Sorry for the confusion! This is actually one of the stranger early spring perennials... Mukdenia rossii. I'm sorry that it doesn't have a common name, since that Latin name is a mouthful. Mukdenia rossii is native to rocky slopes and ravines in China, Manchuria and Korea. It is a compact herbaceous perennial similar to coral bells in habit and height. Palmate medium green leaves are tinged with bronze and attractive throughout the growing season. White, bell-shaped flowers rise above the foliage clump to 16” tall in March and April. Best grown in moist, fertile, well-drained soils in part shade, it appreciates afternoon shade or sun dappled shade in the south. Plants spread over time by short creeping rhizomes, and may self-seed in optimum growing conditions.
