Market Page Today

Someone e-mailed us that the Market page wasn’t “moving.” Yesterday we included in the blog to send a separate e-mail to cumberlandfm@gmail.com (not a Reply to another e-mail or an e-mail to all market managers through the software. We would have seen this sooner if we had received a separate e-mail. It was not signed, and we have no idea who sent it.

As to why the Market page isn’t moving: There is a lot of traffic on the servers over the weekend. For example, when you add an item to your cart when ordering, look for the “working” icon (spinning circle usually). We have found that at the market, especially, we have to frequently refresh our pages. Please try those solutions and get back to us by sending a separate e-mail to: cumberlandfm@gmail.com

Thanks!
Kir and Linda

NEWS FROM JUMPOFF MOUNTAIN JAVA
To our coffee lovers: We regret that Jumpoff Mountain Java will not be available this week through the CFM. However, coffee can be found at Mooney’s and the Piggly Wiggly. FROM YOUR MARKET CO-MANAGERS
To all our wonderful growers and customers: The Cumberland Farmers’ Market co-managers are growers and artisans, too (read: we’re also busy). We make every effort to respond to your calls and e-mail questions in a timely manner. Consequently, while the market is open (Sat. 5 p.m. to Mon. 10 a.m.), we will check once a day for your questions and get back to you. During the remainder of the week, we will check for your questions every other day. To get the fastest response, please send your questions to: cumberlandfm@gmail.com rather than any other address.

Another item: during the past month, we have had inquiries about fruit bars, energy bars, and the like. We have checked with out bakers and learned that the prices of ingredients (especially dried fruit and nuts) have risen exponentially. This would result in the price of such market items increasing at least 50 percent. If you feel so inclined and would like to pursue this, please e-mail us.

THANK YOU ALL!
A hearty Thank You to everyone who participated in our latest Taste of the Market. This is such a great way to meet our local providers up close and personal, to ask questions, to offer suggestions/requests, and to learn first hand about about what our growers/artisans do and how they do it. AND to get samples!!

Also a HUGE THANK YOU to Leslie Lytle who worked tirelessly organizing the Art at the Market and who provided the mandolin music for us. Those of you who know Leslie know she is a workhorse with seemingly boundless energy and ideas, as well as a knack for making things happen. This event was so successful, the artists are thinking about doing another one later! Way to go, Leslie!

Thank you also to State Representative David Alexander for carving out some time from his busy life to attend the market and to speak to folks.

Last, but certainly not least, thank you to the great people at the Sewanee Time Bank for giving generously of their time to inform folks about the Time Bank and sign up volunteers. This is an important community resource that can help us all!

What a great day! It makes us realize once again how fortunate we all are to live in such a beautiful and thriving mountain community!

Debit and Credit Cards Can Be Processed -- and Call for Paper for Recycling

Yea ! ! We can finally offer Credit and Debit Card processing again: VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and AmEx.

The extra good news is that we can lower the gratuity we ask for processing from 3.5% down to 2.75%. Every little bit helps, right?

Also, it took us nearly a year to use up the generous donations of printer paper (printed on only one side), but we are nearly out. If you can help us out here, we greatly appreciate it. Just bring your donations to Market — or the Taste of the Market on Saturday (noon to 4:00 p.m.). Or if that’s not convenient, e-mail us back and we will arrange to pick it up.
