Small Farms Making a Difference

Laurel Farm

This grower has a photo album.

We (Charlie and Katherine) started beekeeping in the Spring of 2007, producing local honey near the Jump-Off area of Sewanee. The bees (unmedicated) gathered last year’s harvest mainly from sourwood, tulip poplar and locust trees; this year, the weather will influence what blooms, and when. The honey is raw, filtered and delicious.
Our happy hens are free-ranging during the day, and spend the nights in a secure coop, protected from predators. We offer large brown and green eggs from Auracanas (these birds lay green-shelled eggs), Buff Orpingtons, New Hampshire Reds, Rhode Island Reds and Wyandottes.
Our produce is pesticide-free, and grown with sustainable practices, including rotation, natural composts, row covers, companion plantings, and hands-in-the-dirt weeding.
We are happy to answer any questions, and hope you will let us know if you ever have a problem with any of our products.
