SAS Farm and Gardens
This grower has a photo album.
Many students, parents and faculty have been gardening at St. Andrew’s Sewanee School over the years. Our current focus is to bring the gardens more into the center of things, to integrate an organic ‘seed to plate’ program into our curriculum, and to use the bulk of the vegetables we produce in our own dining hall.
We will have vegetables, cut flowers, and ornamentals to sell here sporadically. The money from plant and vegetable sales goes back into the farm and garden program to pay for seed, tools, fencing, compost, etc..
Our students suggested that our first project be the planting of an organic herb garden in front of our dining hall. This area is currently full of beautiful perennial plants. Most of these will be moved else where on campus, but a few select varieties will be available for sale now as garden transplants (delivered in a plastic sack), or smaller plants -potted up and made available as they attain proper root growth for transplanting.
