Circling Hawk Nursery, owned and operated by Charlotte Webster, specializes in containerized herbs, perennials, nursery- propagated wildflowers, heirloom vegetables, and other rare plants for the wholesale and retail market, as well as fresh cut herbs, flowers and produce for the local market. A large part of our mission is to produce plants that promote plant bio-diversity, have medicinal value, pleasing fragrance or promote the health and well-being of honey bees, birds, and butterflies.
Although the container plants are not grown ‘organically’, we do not practice routine spraying of ANYTHING, preferring to encourage predatory insects, use traps or other manipulations of the growing environment to prevent infestations or disease. The soil we use in the containers is a mixture of sterilized peat, pine bark, perlite and vermiculite with a slow release synthetic fertilizer such as triple 14 Osmocote. Ocassionally we use soap spray or pyrethrin and very rarely stronger chemical pesticides, but this season, so far, we have not had to spray any pesticides at all, and if we do, we inform the customer before their purchase. For our produce, we use organic practices except for the occasional use of slow release synthetic fertiliser. We would rather sacrifice the crop than use synthetic pesticides.
The nursery is open year round but this time of year it is best to call before you visit. It is easy to find…only 3 miles south of the downtown square at 1313 Liberty Rd. Phone and fax: 931-968-0075, e-mail: circlinghawkfarms@cafes.net.
